We invite you to join us on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at our Creekside Community Garden located at 398 Old Ithaca Road, Horseheads.
Executive Director, Leisa Alger encourages the community and involved families to attend this event and meet the people who make good things happen for others every day, “We have an exemplary group who oftentimes work quietly and without recognition, who fulfill multiple skilled functions to support people living with disabilities - and their families.”
This celebration is in recognition of the dedication and accomplishments of outstanding Direct Support Professionals and the vital contribution they make in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our community.
Nationwide, there are approximately 1.4 million individuals who require professional support in order to live and work in their own communities – and assist their families to do likewise. Direct Support Professionals are there for people who need them. Ms. Alger added that “we must continue to remind our policy makers that this is work which requires wide ranging skill, specialized training, and dedication that exceeds entry level, minimum wage work. And it’s worth taking a moment to just say Thank You for showing up and making a difference.”
The Celebrate our Heroes event will include performances by local musicians CC Ryder and John Manfredi, with small bites and activities for all, and an opportunity for direct support professionals to hear directly from those whose lives they have affected.
